I made this piece with reference to a bunch of flowers I picked on my mum’s birthday in September, at a local cutting garden in Devon. The dahlias and cosmos were everywhere and I love how they keep flowering into autumn - their colours inspired me to try working with some colour for once, which made a nice creative change.
The pomegranate is widely held as a fertility symbol and an aphrodisiac, with further symbolic associations with prosperity, the flesh, and the blood. It represents the full life cycle of birth, sex and death. It is such an interesting and evocative fruit, with a very long history, both culturally and culinarily.
It took me just over 10 hours to create this piece.
The Hahnemühle German Etching paper I have chosen for this print is sustainably made, vegan, and certified to a very high standard with a life expectancy of 100+ years.
The weight and texture of this paper is perfect for fine art printing, as it holds the ink very well, creating deep and rich blacks, high contrast and strong colours.
