The sacred heart is a symbol of Catholic devotion, and has been widely depicted in Christian art for hundreds of years. It has become a very popular image, particularly in tattooing, and I completely adore it for its rich symbolism and aesthetic. My design for this print has been in the works for what feels like a really long time, it’s had many alterations and in the end I decided that I really wanted to make it super colourful and detailed.
Peach-coloured roses encircle the flaming, bleeding heart, pierced by seven swords, with an all-seeing eye within. The image to me symbolises infinite and divine love, in whatever sense rings true. I like to meditate on the sheer miracle of the earth, of the myriad connections we build between the self and each other, and of our connection to the mysterious, unknown cosmos. Here we are ♥︎
The Hahnemühle German Etching paper I have chosen for this print is sustainably made, vegan, and certified to a very high standard with a life expectancy of 100+ years. It has a softly textured finish, and a heavyweight feel.
A Giclée print is an archival quality inkjet print. Giclée printers have a higher dot per square inch resolution than normal inkjet printers, enabling a very high quality print. Giclée printers also use a higher quality of fade-resistant, pigment-based inks. This results in an archival quality print which can last for generations.
