SNAKE, BUTTERFLIES AND PEONIES - LIMITED EDITION A1 LINO PRINT

* Limited Edition of 4.
Hand printed lino cut, printed on Somerset printmaking paper. This high quality, archival paper is made from 100% cotton and has a gentle texture with a soft satin finish.
The design has been printed with traditional, light-fast linseed oil based relief ink in black.
I have hand printed these lino prints from a lino cut. I use a roller to apply ink evenly across the lino cut - each sheet of paper is then individually pressed and burnished onto the lino block to make the print. The process is repeated for each print, and as such, they areal unique with slight variations and imperfections.
Each print is signed and stamped with a wax seal and a signature stamp, which has been cut from a small piece of lino and individually printed with oil-based relief ink in deep red.
This is my second go at a large scale lino cut and I really enjoyed making it! My final design ended up being very different from the original drawing, with the addition of butterflies and lots more details in the leaves and body of the snake. The process felt like a meditation, and it was a pleasure to spend so long working on some of my favourite animal subjects :)
